Quick overview of VRealize Operation Manager 6.0

Introduction:

VRealize Operation Manager (VROPS) is a tool that helps IT admin to monitor, troubleshoot and manager the health and capacity of their virtual infrastructure. Previously this tool was called Operation Manager, now it has named VRealize Operation manager. The most impressive changes in VROPS 6.0 is the internal architecture change of component, which has helped to produce a solution that support both a scaled-out and high availability deployment model.

From an architectural standpoint, vRealize Operations Manager is vastly superior to vCenter Operations Manager, which was a two-VM vApp, and could only scale up. Operations Manager V6.x uses Gemfire cluster technology and this can also scale-out for additional capacity. In addition, the Advanced and Enterprise editions allow vRealize Operations Manager High Availability to be enabled.

What is Gem Fire technology?

Some of the major difference in the deployment of vRealize Operation Manager 6.0 compared to old vCOPs 5.x

With a new common platform design comes a completely new architecture. The following diagram shows the five major components of the Operations Manager architecture:

The five major components of the Operations Manager architecture depicted in the preceding figure are:

  • The user interface
  • Collector and the REST API:-
  • Controller
  • Analytics
  • Persistence

What's new in vRealize Operations Manager (vROps) 6.2?

VMware released the next version of vRealize Operations Manager (vROps) 6.2. There are some new features as follow.
  • Enhanced Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) Integration - The vRealize Operations Manager analytics determine cross-cluster placement opportunities, while vCenter distributed Resource Scheduler determines the best destination within clusters. The enhanced integration uses all DRS rules, constraints, and enterprise-class capabilities.
  • New Workload Utilization Dashboard
  • Ability to Import Single Sign-On Users
  • Telemetry Enablement on Upgrade
  • Portable Licensing - possibility to install multiple Advanced and Enterprise editions in the same vRealize Operations Manager deployment.
